Sweet green smoothie

With days getting shorter, my energy levels decrease visibly. To top it off, I suffered a serious attack of laziness, and I must honestly say that I had to put me a big kick in the butt to push myself to write this article o_O .

If like me you feel you need a little boost, I suggest you try this recipe. First, it is a smoothie, so it requires no preparation other than shoving the ingredients into the bowl of your blender. Great! Then it will bring you a wealth of nutrients that will help fighting the autumnal fatigue. And this is how to hit tow targets with one bullet!

What is in that smoothie then? Nothing fancy: almonds, bananas, spinach, spirulina and chia seeds. A simple yet effective combination!

Almonds are rich in soluble fiber, vitamins and minerals including: magnesium, manganese, copper, iron, phosphorus, zinc and vitamins B1, B2, B3 and E. Banana favours intestinal transit and contains vitamins B6, B9 and C, as well as manganese, copper, magnesium and potassium. Spinach will are loaded with iron and antioxidants. Chia seeds are a source of omega-3, an essential fatty acid primordial for good health.

Last but not least: spirulina, considered a superfood thank to its exceptional nutritional benefits. Spirulina is an alga belonging to the family of cyanobacteria or blue-green algae. It is a wealth of nutrients despite its tiny size. Beware though, its quality can vary depending on geographical origin, farming, drying and grinding methods. By investing in good quality spirulina, you will provide your body with a slew of nutrients! In fact, spirulina may contain up to 70% protein. It is also a source of carotenoids, especially beta carotene. Spirulina is also an excellent source of iron.

“Spirulina has a very interesting nutritional value. Having 2 tsp of spirulina, is equivalent to eating [about] 1 cup of broccoli (for iron), 1 carrot (for carotenoids) and 1 egg (for protein and certain carotenoids). “
